Relocation Tips for a Successful Move

Relocating to a new place doesn't have to be daunting. As scary as it may seem, moving from your old home doesn't mean you have to give up everything you hold dear. In fact, you may discover that moving was the best thing you ever did. To help make it a rewarding experience, it's best to work with an experienced Realtor who's highly knowledgeable about the area. And to make your fresh start even better, here are three more methods for a successful move:

Do your due diligence

Create a list of your most important criteria for your new location. For example, if you wish to travel, ensure that you are close to a major airport. Also, consider your commute time for work. Do you prefer to live in an urban, suburban, or rural area? If you want access to sporting, musical, and other cultural opportunities, look for places close to a large city or college town. If you have children, be sure to research the schools. Note that the best school districts are often the best places to live. There is a wealth of information at your fingertips via Google searches, but it's also a good idea to ask your Realtor for advice.

Find a fitting neighborhood

Once you've narrowed down your list of potential locations, plan a visit. Visiting is the best way to see if the places you love online are just as good, or better, in real life. Take the time to vet each of the communities on your shortlist thoroughly. Spend a day or two in the area to truly comprehend what life would be like. Talk to the neighbors and tour available homes. Look at the recreational programs. Are they a good fit for you and your family's lifestyle? If a resort-like community is appealing, determine if the homeowners are mostly full-time or part-time residents. It's much easier to make new friends if your neighbors are actually present. (Note: Harbor Club on Lake Oconee has over 80% full-time residents -- an impressive feat for an award-winning lake and golf community.) Overall, you'll want to be in a fun-loving, safe neighborhood that offers several options for staying engaged and enjoying life with kind, like-minded people.

Discover your new home

After finding a neighborhood you love, it's time to discover your new home. Determine how much you want to spend and the amount of space you need. Do you prefer a resale or new construction? Also, create a list of "must-haves," "needs," and "wants." Share this information with your Realtor so they can send you the listings that best fit your criteria. View the listings online, then plan to visit and tour your top contenders with your agent. Ask plenty of questions. Your Realtor's knowledge and expertise can help make your big decision much easier.

No matter where you decide to live and which home you wish to buy, always ask for the assistance of a licensed real estate agent. They'll provide the expert advice you need to navigate these processes with ease. That's how it is when you purchase a home at Harbor Club.
